Bag the Lights
Un-trimming the tree? Zip-lock bags are great for storing lights: they keep the strands separate and protect the bulbs. For years I meticulously wrapped Christmas tree lights around things to try to keep them organized. It took too long and it did not do a great job of protecting the lights. This was better then my original method of wadding them all together in a storage bin. Then in a spark of laziness, I decided to put each strand of lights in a bag. It turns out that sealable 1 gallon plastic bags make great storage containers for Christmas lights.
So don't waste time trying to be organized--just bag the lights and throw all the bags into a large storage bin.

It's cheaper and I reuse the straw and lid as long as they last. Post a commentYou must be a registered user to post comments. |

Oh, yes this is an excellent idea. I've been doing this along with keeping a small sized zip-bag for replacement lights, ornament hooks, even the tree garland.
A good place to store the zip-bags is in those decorative popcorn cans. I have a couple cans filled with what the photo decoration is on the can. When Christmas comes I use the empty cans to put my baking in for storage till guests come. Then after Christmas I just wash, dry, fill, and stack the cans away. The don't get brittle and break like the plastic toes sometimes do.
The holiday popcorn tins are out for a lot of the holidays.
It is easy to identify each holiday, and stack them all in one place. I even have a couple tins with mittens and hats in for storage in and out of season. These tins are both practical and decorative.
Thoughts for Easter is to use zip-bags to store your extra basket grass in them and then toss them in an Easter popcorn tin.
